Does Psalm 82:6 + John 10:34 Say Humans Are Gods?

Psalm 82:6, “I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High."

John 10:34, "Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods” ’?"

What exactly are these two verses saying? Are humans gods? It is first important to note that there is only one true and living God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Out of context, these verses could seem to refer to humans as gods, but let us look at the verses with a bit more context through the surrounding verses.

Psalm 82:1-8, "God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”: “How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked? Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. 6“I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’ But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler.” Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance." (NIV)

John 10:30-38, "I and the Father are one.” Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.34Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods” ’? If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father. Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp." (NIV)

So what does this exactly mean?

#1.   Psalm 82:1-8 in context is about God judging the earth and all judges of the earth. The "gods" are judges, specifically of Israel. Psalm 82:6, "I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High." Remember, Jews recognize God as a Father, and because God is their Father, the people of Israel are His children, thus they are, "sons of the Most High". Humans are not gods, we are not divine, we are mere mortals (Psalm 56:4, Psalm 118:6).

#2.   Jesus claims He is God twice in the sequence of verses in John. The first time in John 10:30 (I and the Father are one), and then again when He quotes Psalm 82:6. Jesus was claiming to be of the same nature as God the Father, and thus equal with Him, but also as God the Judge of the earth in Psalm 82:8.

#3.   How is Jesus God the Judge of the earth? In Psalm 82:8, Psalm 94:1-2, Psalm 98:9 and Psalm 110:6, God (the LORD, Jehovah, YAHWEH) is the Judge of the earth... and yet, the Father judges not one but has entrusted all judgment of the earth to Jesus (John 5:22-23), with all authority in heaven and on earth belonging to Jesus (Matthew 28:18-19).
