The Book of Judges 

Overview

- What:The Book of Judges gives the history of Israel's leaders after Joshua. After Joshua, the leadership gets worse and worse, with the leaders leading the people of Israel into idolatry and other detestable practices.
-When: 1010-970 BC
-Where: Israel
-Why: The Book of Judges shows how the Israelites broke the covenant with God.

Jesus OT ← → NT:
2:1-5 = angel of the LORD
5:5 = the LORD, the One of Sinai (remember Moses saw the back of the LORD) also → 6:8 = also the LORD who brought them up out of Egypt
5:23 = angel of the LORD
6:11-40 = angel of the LORD… appears to Gideon, verse 14 “the LORD turned to him”...
 6:22-23 Gideon scared because he saw the angel of the LORD’s face to face (which you would die according to OT) and the LORD says Gideon wouldn’t die although he saw the LORD face to face
13:3-25 = points to Exodus 23:20-21 + Exodus 33:20… angel of the LORD, looked like a man and was very awesome, angel of the LORD appears again, 13:11 the angel of the LORD states” I am”, 13:16 angel of the LORD speaking in 3rd person, and yet Manoah didn't realize it was the angel of the LORD, 13:18 : when asked what the angel of the LORD’s name was, angel of the LORD replies “it is beyond understanding”, 13:20-23 : offering is made to the LORD, angel of the LORD goes up into the flame, they fall down in worship and say “we will die, we have seen God” but Manoah’s wife says that if the LORD was going to kill them He would not have accepted their sacrifice .
