Who Or What Is The Holy Spirit?

The Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, 3 being 1 God) is one of the bare-bone beliefs that makes someone a Christian, alongside the crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of God the Son: Jesus Christ. Regardless if someone believes in the Trinity, though, most people can grasp the Father-Son relationship the Father has with Jesus. What about the Holy Spirit?

Here are 10 facts to identify the Holy Spirit and His role in the Trinity, but also for Christians:

1.  Holy Spirit is God, one with the Father and Son (Genesis 18: 1-5, Isaiah 63:7-10).

2. Jesus said the Holy Spirit is another advocate (John 14:16-17), making the Holy Spirit equal to Jesus. Consider also when Jesus states that Him and the Father will make their home in the Christian believer (John 14:23)... the Holy Spirit lives in the Christian (Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 6:19), further proving the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one.

3.  Holy Spirit is a person, not a force/energy as Jehovah's Witnesses (1) claim Him to be. A person has feelings, speaks, and can have knowledge... all attributes of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30, Acts 13:2, and 1 Corinthians 2:11). A force/energy cannot feel, speak, or have knowledge (I.e. gravity).

4. Holy Spirit is seated on God's Throne, on which God the Father and God the Son (Jesus) sit (Revelation 22:1).

5. Holy Spirit is the Living Water Jesus offers the woman at the well in John 4:10, as shown in Isaiah 49:10, along with John 7:37-39, and is the river of living water in Revelation 22:1.

6. The Holy Spirit was given to us after Jesus' ascension to help Christians (John 14:26).

7. Spiritual gifts are distributed by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:1-11).

8. Holy Spirit can be represented as both fire (Daniel 7:10, Acts 2:1-4) and water (see #5).

9. Holy Spirit is the seal that Christians are marked with (Ephesians 1:13-14, 2 Corinthians 1:22)

10. Holy Spirit sanctifies Christians (2 Thessalonians 2:13), helps the Christian in their weaknesses and intercedes for the Christian (Romans 8:26).
