Jesus is already with them and therefore Jesus cannot be the Holy Spirit, they are different persons. The Spirit of truth is the also Holy Spirit, who goes out from the Father… so Jesus and the Holy Spirit are two distinct persons, and if the Holy Spirit goes out from , the word from infers that the Holy Spirit also IS NOT the Father, but is a distinct person from both Jesus and Father. But here you can see the roles of each here [1.Father provides His Son for the dealing with of sin and death, and Holy Spirit for all believers to be empowered against sin and the world’s temptations ]   [2. Jesus is the begotten Son of the Father who payed the debt for each and every sin ever to have been committed spoke, in thought or in action, and fulfills the role of the everlasting King and High Priest we all need ]    [ 3. Holy Spirit is now with us on this earth, in place of Jesus being physically with us, sent to us (the church) by Jesus from the Father who is our Advocate, who (if we listen) guides us in all truth, and lives within believers through the baptism of THE HOLY SPIRIT (NOT WATER BAPTISM) gives us God’s power to testify about Jesus and to triumph over sin and temptations because we can’t do it on our own ]

Relevant History + Science:

Notes
  • 7:27 states, “But we know where this man is from; when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.” AND…. IN 8:14 Jesus says, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.” mind-blown… Jesus responds to them in this manner… This is also shown in 9:29 when the Pharisees are talking to the man born blind whom Jesus healed.

  • 8:1-11 look into what Jesus could have written… they brought up the Law of Moses, so could Jesus writing on the ground symbolize God writing the commandments on the tablets?
  • 8:39 to Genesis 18… Abraham was a Christian because he had faith in Jesus.
  • The really cool thing about John 8:58 is that it goes deeper than the surface, of course, as scripture usually does. In 7:24, Jesus says, “Stop judging by mere appearances and instead judge correctly.” Now, the context of this verses was regarding Jesus healing a man on the Sabbath. But here in John 8:58, the same verses can be applied because although at this time during Jesus’ life on earth, He was maybe 33 years old, but God’s name, “I AM” given to Moses in Exodus 3:14, also the LORD, Yahweh, Yehova, the name literally means, “the existing One”... and Jesus is telling the Jews basically telling the Jews here, “Before Abraham was born, I EXISTED.”
  • 11:16… what?
  • 11:44 take off the grave clothes and let him go… take the grave clothes off! Take them all off and live! Would Lazarus keep some of the grave clothes on and some take off? No. Lazarus would take off all of the grave clothes and put new clothes on, as he is not dead. We are not called to death but to life, and sometimes the grave clothes feel a little more comfortable. Comfort is easy. It’s easy to stay in sin, it’s easy to look back when we should be moving forward. It’s easy to keep some of those grave clothes on when we shouldnt. Jesus says to take off the grave clothes and embrace and put on the clothes He Himself has given us, we are clothed in life with Him, and sometimes we willingly keep our grave clothes on. Why.
  • 17:3 use of 3rd person language
  • 20:21-23 incredibly interesting that only after Jesus breathes on the disciples to receive the Holy Spirit He says if they forgive anyone’s sins they are forgiven, but if they do not forgive the sins they are not forgiven… possibly pointing to other passages such as : Matthew 18:21-35
