Who Is In Charge Of Hell?

Many people think the Devil (Lucifer/Satan) is in charge of Hell, or at the very least, dishes out the punishments people endure in Hell. What if this is not true?

The Bible says that the Devil himself will be tortured in Hell (Revelation 20:10) because God created Hell for the Devil and the angels that rebelled with him (Matthew 25:41).

So the question then becomes, who is in charge of Hell?

This might come as a surprise, but the fact of the matter is that God Himself is in control and is in charge of Hell.

Daniel 7:9-11, "As I looked, “thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened. “Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire."

Revelation 20:11-15, "Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.  And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.  The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

Psalm 97:1-3, "The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice. Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side."

The Apostle Paul makes it more clear that God is the one in control over Hell. The Holy Spirit, through the Apostle Paul says in 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10, "God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you."

Here are simply three examples of how God is the One who destroys both soul and body in hell (Matthew 10:28) through His Fire, and that God is the One who punishes the Devil, fallen angels, and those whose faith is not in Jesus Christ for their salvation.
