The greek word is translated as Master, Teacher, Guide… Messiah and Christ mean the same thing (Anointed One), and Jesus also lists the Holy Spirit as the Teacher and the one father of the children of God as the Father, and these 3 work in unison, also shows the trinity.
23:39 = Jesus claims to be God here because He is speaking from the perspective of having been on this earth, He will return again as shown as the Son of Man does. (explained in the verse below)
24:35 = Jesus is claiming to be God here because all of man’s words pass away, but never will the Word of God pass away.

26:63-64 = Accused of claiming to be God, and confirms the claim by quoting Psalm 110:1 and Daniel 7:13, verses only applied to God
27:10 = also shown in Zechariah 11:12-13, the LORD states they valued Him at 30 pieces of silver, the same price at which Judas betrayed Jesus with (literally the image of Zechariah 11:12-13)
27:17-20 = all authority in heaven and on earth belongs only to God, and Jesus is saying that it is all His.
8:20, 10:23, 11:19, 12:8, 12:40, 13:37, 13:41, 16:27-28, 17:9, 17:12, 17:22-23, 19:28, 20:18, 20:28, 24:44, 26:2, 26:24, 26:45 all have Jesus referencing that He is the Son of Man as show in Daniel 7:13, 11:31, 12:11 (the Son of Man here is God, which is Jesus.)

Culture/Time
During the time of Jesus, Rome occupied Jerusalem, this known as the Roman Period. The Jews and Romans interactions with each other was conflicting, especially since the Jews are monotheistic and the Romans were polytheistic. This is the core of what made differences between the two groups, from major differences from worship of the One True God and gods, all the way down to diet (to be discussed). As mentioned in the New Testament Overview document, it was common practice for the Romans to worship the emperor, and acknowledge the emperor as a god himself. News Flash: though the Romans saw the emperors as gods, and the emperors themselves accepted worship from the people, they're still in their graves… dead. There is One, though, who claimed to be God, accepted worship, and rose from the dead: Jesus Christ.
Relevant History + Science
1:1-17 The Genealogy of Jesus
-Notes-
- 1:25 Joseph consummates marriage with Mary after the birth of Jesus
- 2:1 Herod sends Magi AFTER Jesus’s birth, so the manger scene is inaccurate… also why Herod says to kill every child under 2, because this is the approximate age Jesus had to have been at the time, also shown in 2:7.
- 3:15 Jesus is about 30 at this time
- 5:45 that you may… that you may be children of your Father in Heaven… if heaven has the Heavenly Father, the Father of Truth, there is a father of lies. Those who hate their neighbor serve him.
- 6:9-13 the Our Father: the acknowledgment of the Father in Heaven, we are not orphans… holy is is Name. His Kingdom come and His will be done (what is his will?) … forgive us our debts, AS WE also have forgiven our debtors.
- The word, “Lord” when applied to Jesus in the New Testament is the same word for the word, “LORD” in the Old Testament. The differences are as follows: [ LORD = shown in the Old Testament is used when referencing God’s personal name as YAHWEH/Jehovah, the name that God revealed to Moses at the Burning Bush… the Hebrew word is H3068 in Strong’s Concordance Dictionary, and the Greek septuagint is G2962 in Strong’s Concordance Dictionary. ]
[ Lord = title given to Jesus (Lord Jesus), the Greek word in the New Testament is the same word for LORD in the Old Testament (G2962) ] [ lord = this word can actually be applied even in the marriage context, as the Hebrew word H113 can mean master, king, or superintendent of household ] the determining factor between the application of Lord and lord is the context in the verse, the verses before and the verses after. It’s important to note that Matthew 8:2 and 8:6-8 Jesus accepts to be called Lord, and in the manner the centurion is using, it should be accepted as the form “Lord” minimally
- 8:14 Peter was married
- 8:29 according to the demons, Jesus is who will torment the demons and if the demons are in the lake of fire, and lost souls go to the lake of fire, the damned are also tortured by Jesus
- Jesus only says and does what the Father does, and therefore Jesus calling the man son in this scenario is to be understood in that context
- Isaiah 25:6 talks about a banquet, a Messianic Banquet… Jesus references this in 9:15
-10:2 apostles, not just disciples
- 10:34 Jesus is not a hippy… He’s a warrior
- 11:5 fulfilled Isaiah 42:7
- 11:10 fulfilled Malachi 3:1… “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me.” This is messianic, but the verse also ends with the LORD who has spoken
- 11:28 Jesus claims to be God according to Psalm 62:1 and 62:5
- 13:38-39 completely different sowers
- 14:13-21 mirrors Psalm 105:40, which mirrors Exodus 16:1-36
- 16:13-20 Simon Peter declares that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus says that Simon Peter is blessed, and Jesus calls him Peter (=small rock), verse 18 the word rock, when Jesus says upon this rock, the word work means bedrock, or foundation… so on the foundational truth of Jesus being the Messiah and the Son of God, Jesus builds his church.
- 22:15-22 parallels Mark 12:13-17, Jesus states that the kings of the earth collect taxes from those who are not their children. A few things here: temple tax was used in the OT with 2 Samuel 21:10, 1 Chronicles 21:1 and Exodus 30:11-16. Census was only to be taken at God’s command.
- Notice the difference in how the disciples address Jesus and then how Judas addresses Jesus in Matthew 26:22-25 (Lord vs. Rabbi)
- Matthew 26:27-29 Jesus will drink the cup of the vine again in the Kingdom
