9 Disturbing Facts About Hell

Please don't make the mistake of believing one of two things... or both: that Hell is not real, or that Hell is one huge party where you get to do whatever you want because the Devil allows you to. If Hell exists, and if it's not a party where the Devil is the host, what exactly is it?

Genesis 1:1 states, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." (NIV) Since God is a spiritual being, this indicates that the spiritual world existed before the creation (the heavens + earth).

The Triune God created all things, including Heaven and Hell, which are the only spiritual destinations for each human's soul (Matthew 25:31-46). Jesus makes this a clear distinction... the sheep (those who trust in Jesus ) on His right to spend eternity in Heaven, and the goats (those who do not trust in Jesus) on His left to spend eternity in eternal punishment.

What does this eternal punishment consist of?

1. Worms will consume those who are there, and the worms will never die (Isaiah 66:24 + Mark 9:48).

2. Those who are there will also be consumed by an unquenchable fire (Isaiah 66:24 + Mark 9:48)

3. God originally made Hell for the Devil and the fallen angels (Matthew 25:41), but because we all sin, Matthew 25:41 also shows us that humans can be sentenced to Hell as well because the payment of our sin is spiritual death (Romans 6:23).

4. The Devil himself (Lucifer/Satan) is tortured in Hell (Revelation 20:10).

5. Status does not matter, those who go to Hell are not remembered (Job 24:19-20).

6. There is no peace (Isaiah 48:22, 57:21).

7. There is no rest (Revelation 14:11).

8. The spiritual body and soul are destroyed there (Matthew 10:28).

9.  Anything that God is (love, light, rest, goodness, perfection, righteousness, etc.), Hell does not have since God doesn't dwell there, but rather in Heaven. Therefore, Hell is the opposite of God's character (hatred, darkness, unrest, evil, inequity, filth, wickedness, etc.).
